Dubai is known for shopping and it has raised its standards several fold, thanks to these 2 malls. The malls in Dubai play host to every single major brand in the world. So you don’t have to worry about running out of variety.

The next stop in the line is The Restless Planet, which is situated in the City of Arabia. The City of Arabia is a very huge theme park which is currently under construction, but will be open to visitors very soon. The Restless planet is actually a reconstruction of the famous Jurassic Park. It will consist of a horde of life-size robotic dinosaurs, each of which takes more than 6 months and a whole team of over-qualified professionals and researchers to build. Some of them are even being programmed to lunge at park visitors as they pass by. Impressed?

Next on the tour is Ski Dubai, the world’s largest indoor ski slope. Believe me when I say it is HUGE. It even has an indoor ski lift to take people to the top of the slope! Now how’s that for a surprise? Well, if you do get bored of skiing, you can always try out sand boarding, which is nothing but snowboarding, but on sand. The sand boarding session is usually coupled with the Dune bashing session, which is something that you absolutely cannot miss. The Dubai desert safari usually lasts for around half an hour, which usually involves driving on the edge of treacherously shaped sand dunes, not knowing whether or not you’ll live to see the next day’s light. It involves a million times more adrenalin than going on a roller coaster! Do not miss this. This is the highlight of your Dubai tour.

Well, there’s more. Dubailand, the world’s largest amusement park is being built as you read and when it throws open its gates to visitors, rest assured that you can expect nothing less than extravagant. Apart from these attractions, Dubai is also building three islands (they are totally man-made), all shaped like palm trees, which mostly consist of residential complexes and uber-sexy beach bungalows, each with a private beach! If you are lucky enough, you can easily spot the Palm Islands, from the air just before you land at Dubai Airport. Even if you do not manage to catch it then, you can always take a private aerial tour of Dubai in a helicopter.

There are also several projects which are coming up like ‘The Cloud, Dubai’, which is actually a resort, that is being built on stilts! Yeah. You read right. It is being mounted on 300 m poles which will extend right into the clouds over the Dubai skies. There is also another project, the Hydropolis, the 1st totally underwater hotel. The hotel’s guests will be brought to the hotel in submarines or a helicopter! Stunned! Well, don’t be, because this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The name of the newest edition to the low-cost airline for Dubai is called FlyDubai, and there are plans to provide no frills cheap flights to and from Dubai.

The aim is to have the first flights launched by mid 2009. This new company has recently placed an order for “54 Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft from Boeing at the Farnborough Air Show in England, valued at $4 billion US. At the same time, Dubai International Airport reports record traffic for the first half of 2008 with 18.46 million passengers.”

According to our sources, “This order (by FlyDubai) is valued at approximated $4bn at today’s list prices and marks the biggest single order by a Gulf-based low cost carrier for the Boeing aircraft. The 737-800 is a single aisle aircraft configured with 189 Economy Class seats. It has a flying range of 4.5 hours, which will give FlyDubai access to an estimated 2 billion potential customers.”

As was mentioned by Jim McNerney, (Boeing Chairman, President and CEO) “Our relationship with the UAE is something we truly value and have worked to strengthen over time. Today’s order is the result of a thorough analysis of the contributions the Next-Generation 737 can make to FlyDubai’s innovative business model. We foresee the unmatched efficiency and operability of this incredible airplane bringing the same success to our partners in Dubai as it does to so many of the world’s most successful low-cost carriers.”

FlyDubai was officially formed by the Dubai Government in March 2008, and is set to offer customers flexible travel options that remain simple, effective and of course good value for money.

While Abu Dhabi continues to compete with its neighbor Dubai, as a destination for international property investors and business people, the recently announced plans for a new executive airport for Al Bateen military airbase (only 10 kilometers from downtown Abu Dhabi) by the Abu Dhabi Airports Company, is sure to aid the plight of this emirate country.

As was reflected in the media: “ADAC is planning to invest more than $50 million US in new and upgraded facilities at the airport to make it attractive to those who want to do business in the Emirate.”

By creating the a dedicated executive jet airport, we are taking an important step forward in regional leadership of this sector and in reinforcing the credentials of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as the region’s premier venue for aviation and aerospace industry to flourish.”

With a 3,200 meter runway, which can accommodate a range of aircraft types and sizes, from smaller corporate jets up to Boeing Business Jets (BBJs) or Boeing 737-800s, the Aircraft can park at one of more than 30 stands and accordingly passengers can have access through three passenger terminals.

ADAC’s initial investment is to ensure upgrades to the airfield infrastructure be implemented, including runway surfacing, lighting and electrical power, as well as ensuring fully operational equipment, as well as enhancing terminal facilities. Over the longer term, the company will then support the development of a corporate jet maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) center at the airport. Bastakiya – Bastakiya district is located at East of Dubai Souk on Al-Fahidi Street.

The house was built exclusivly with sandstone in 1896 and offers panoramic views of the sea. Sadly though, the fantastic view is now slightly obscured by the more modern developments.

Children’s City – Tourists with children will be delighted to take the kids the Children’s City, located at Creekside Park. The Children’s City was opened in 2002 and is a smashing hit with children and their delighted parents.

This 7,700 sq-m (83,000 sq ft) wonderland takes young minds on a journey through the human body, science and space, with the help of different ‘zones’. There are also plenty of hands-on activities to keep even the most playful children occupied. All exhibits in this city are in English and Arabic.

Jumeirah Mosque – The Jumeirah Mosque on Al-Jumeirah Road is perhaps the most photographed building by tourists in Dubai because of its impressive example of modern Islamic architecture. Built along medieval Fatimid lines and entirely of stone, the Jumeirah Mosque with its two minarets is particularly beautiful in the night when subtle lighting increases the mosque’s dramatic effect.

Grand Mosque – The Grand Mosque in Ali ibin Ali Talib Street was only rebuilt in 1998 with the city’s tallest minaret standing at an impressive 70m (231ft) tall.The Grand Mosque is made up of nine large domes and 45 smaller ones. This mosque can accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers.

Souks – The souks, or traditional markets, are one of Dubai’s most popular tourist attractions. The souks are located on both sides of the creek, with the most impressive ones on the Deira side.

The highlight of this tourist attraction is the colorful and bustling Spice Market where tourist can find local delights like exotic perfumes and watch noisy locals bargaining with vendors.

Dubai Museum – Not to be missed is the Dubai Museum in Al-Fahidi Fort. The museum itself is actually a historic fort, dating back to 1799. It was only converted into a museum in 1970. The exhibits in the museum ranges from ancient weapons, pearl-diving outfits to an impressive range of military artifacts.

Some of the most intriguing exhibits are those discovered from the 3000 to 4000-year-old graves at Al-Ghusais.

Heritage Village – The Heritage Village is located at Shindagha Tunnel, Al-Shindagha Road and as the name suggests, it is an attempt to weave in some local traditional heritage in contrast to Dubai’s rapidly developing modern skyline.

The objective of the project is to recreate the Bedouin way of life, with locals dressed up in traditional Arabic garbs, exhibit traditional handicrafts, music and dance.

Jumeirah Beach – Although much of the famous pristine crystal clear water of Jumeirah Beach located at Al-Jumeirah Road is dominated by luxury hotels and 5 star accommodations, some of the hotels do allow non hotel guests to use their pools and stretches of beach if they dine at the hotels or pay a nominal usage fee.
