The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, welcomed a record five million visitors during the recent one-month Dubai Shopping Festival (DFS).
In addition, Emaar Malls Group – a major sponsor of the festival – reported strong visitor numbers and sales across its key retail properties including Dubai Marina Mall, Souk Al Bahar and Gold & Diamond Park.
Nasser Rafi, chief executive officer of Emaar Malls Group, said the 15th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival and the success of the Dubai Mall’s visitation had established a benchmark for retail, highlighting the instrumental role played by the festival in driving tourism and retail in Dubai. The development oif Burj Khalifa and the new Dubai hotel apartments have also contributed to the increase in tourism and retail.
He added: “The Dubai Mall was the city’s key shopping, entertainment and leisure destination during DSF, underscored by the record five million visitor footfall – and thus setting a new precedent for shopping malls across the region and internationally.”
The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination with 1,200 retail outlets.
In related news, Mourjan Marinas IGY, which provides development and management solutions for marina lifestyle destinations, has renewed its long term partnership with Dubai Festival City to continue its management of Festival Marina.
The company was formed late last year to drive the growth of marina development throughout the Middle East. Mourjan Marinas IGY said the new contract will allow Dubai Festival City to continue to utilise its design, engineering, management and marketing expertise “to benefit one of Dubai’s most stunning waterfronts”. The waterfront has also been instrumental in increasing the local value of the Dubai property market.
Matthew Bate, director of operations for the firm, said: “This has been a strong and successful partnership, one which we are deeply committed to, and we are now very much looking forward to maintaining Festival Marina’s position as one of world’s premier and unique yachting destinations.”
As part of the partnership renewal, Mourjan Marinas IGY has launched new rates and trial offers to boat owners at Festival Marina. This includes a one month free trial berthing open from April to August 2010.
The Mediterranean inspired Festival Marina has 74 permanent berths with state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate yachts from 15 to 35 metres in length.
