Words are certainly not enough to describe the Dubai sightseeing experience. I have been there so many times yet each time is a different and a much better experience than the previous one.

Why? Because nothing is ever the same. Dubai keeps adding more to its infrastructure and the many different entertainment options as far as things to do in Dubai. In fact the city doesn’t even look the same when I go to visit. There is always something new….as if a building was taken and moved to a new location all together (reminds me of LEGOS when I was a kid).

Pretty insane if you ask me. But amazing indeed. There is so much to sightseeing in Dubai that you will run out of time very quickly. This place is definitely worth multiple visits to truly explore in its entirety. And I can promise you that each of the moments will be a lifelong, memorable moment spent well.

So touring around Dubai is one of the activities that you should not miss. You must devote more of your time for this kind of endeavor! When touring Dubai you can choose to start your tour in the sands, sea, creek, or in the city proper.

All these places offer different sights to behold. There are a myriad of natural and man-made sights in Dubai. Dubai is home for so many world icons that showcase the advancements of engineering and architecture in Dubai.

Record-setting architectural and engineering masterpieces that offer the best sights for the visitors include the Burj Dubai, Burj Al Arab, Palm Islands, and the World Islands. The Burj Dubai is now set as the world’s tallest building dwarfing the other skyscrapers of the world. The Burj Al Arab situated at the Arabian Gulf showcases a special work of the architectural geniuses in its 1,053 feet high sail-shaped structure.

The Palm Islands is a man-made palm tree-shaped resort island. This resort island was planned to offer several sandy beach resorts in its over 120-kilometer coastline. The palm-shaped development was planned to be visible from the moon.

The World Island is like the Palm Island only resembling the shape of the world. This Nakheel development is an exclusive development of islands that are sold by invitation. The World Island situated off the coast of Dubai offers a paradise of sea, sand, and sky.

The views of these man-made attractions offer ravishing sights for Dubai locals and tourists especially when well lit at night.

Other sites worth visiting during your Dubai sightseeing include the following:

• The Desert View that offers several wavy sand dunes and where you can ride a roaring and sand bashing 4WD.

• The Jumeirah Mosque, Dubai’s largest mosque that showcase the medieval Fatimid tradition in its stone construction. The mosque is available for tour every Thursday morning.

• Dubai Museum. Located inside the Al Fahidi Fort, the Dubai Museum holds several exhibits that showcase the rich cultural heritage and history of Dubai.

• Madinat Jumeirah. Designed similarly to an ancient Arabian citadel, this Arabian Resort also pays tribute to Dubai’s cultural heritage.

• The Gold Souq. This is the shoppers’ paradise in Dubai that offers gold, jewelry, and other precious stones coming from different parts of the world such as Asia, Europe, and the Far East.

• Clock Tower. Marking the center of Dubai is the Clock Tower located at the base of the Maktoum Bridge. This prime and famous landmark of Dubai offers a timeless sight of busy people rushing in the streets of Dubai just around the Clock Tower.

• Wonderland. This very first theme park in Dubai still wows its visitors with its fun rides for the entire family.

The setting of the sun in Dubai won’t end your sightseeing adventure, in fact the last visible ray of the sun signals the rise of more fun and dearly sights of Dubai. The Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club that offers a haven for golfers in the morning also plays as a back draft in the evening fireworks display just above its billowing sails. The Aquafantasia also wows the crowd with its famous water and laser display that showcases the enchanting eye, dancing fountains, and fireworks display at the Creekside Park.

These and more await you when you visit Dubai. Once in Dubai, you know where to go and you can choose to have a walk tour, to ride in an open-top big bus, hot air balloon or a helicopter to have a full aerial view of these sights.

The Arab city which has amazing and impressive buildings like palm-shaped islands and the sail-shaped hotel is now going to build a rotating skyscraper.

Rotating Skyscraper is an eclectic skyline and it is a 30-story apartment tower that revolves on its base. The tower will use the Persian Gulf’s abundant sunshine to power the building’s slow rotation that brings it full circle once a week.

Work on the rotating tower is supposed to begin in June. Rotating Skyscraper will use solar energy to power 20 electric motors that will rotate the tower through 360 degrees over the course of a week.

The tower was designed by UK architecture firm, Glenn Howells Architects (the company behind the Birmingham Rotunda in the UK) and Palmer and Turner, the master developers of City of Arabia.

This tower has a height of 250 meters and 59 floors mounted in a concrete core which will serve as a rotating shaft. The floors will be preassembled and then attached to the core of the building.

Each floor will rotate in separate direction from others. The velocity will be slow and not noticed by the residents. The project is Italian and has not begun yet. It is predicted that its construction will last two and a half years. The project cost will be around 500 million dollars.

Dubai’s Dragon Mart, the largest trading hub for products from China outside the Chinese main land has already attracted huge numbers of visitors since opening its doors on December 7th 2004.

Developed by Nakheel at its International City in the Al Warsan area of Dubai, the 1.2 km long Dragon-shaped structure has attracted residents from Dubai and neighboring Emirates who come to enjoy a unique shopping experience while browsing a vast and varied selection of Chinese products.

Dragon Mart includes showrooms, shopping areas, restaurants and warehouses that house 4000 enterprises dealing in Chinese products. The Mart is divided into several commercial and service areas, an office area and a business centre. It also has negotiation rooms and three conference rooms within the commercial areas.

Another major factor draw-card, and one that fascinates public, is the Mart’s distinctive architecture, which is very rare in this part of the world. Spread across 150,000 square meters the Dragon Mart is the first component of Nakheel’s International City project.

Address: Creekside Park (near Wonderland)
Dubai
Tel: +971 (0)4 336 7633
Open: daily, 8am-11pm (winter); 5pm-9pm (summer); Wed: women only

To see just how quickly Dubai is expanding, take the cable car that runs the 2.3km length of Creekside Park (between the Creek’s two bridges) in under half an hour. Suspended 30 metres in the air, you can see for miles in each direction.

Less than 15 years ago, the Dubai World Trade Centre (on the Bur Dubai side) marked the outskirts of the city. Today you can just about see the rising towers of Dubai Marina, some 30km out of town. Beyond the Deira-side of the Creek, the neighbouring emirate of Sharjah lies in the far distance. You’ll also be reminded of Dubai’s striking geography, sandwiched between the waters of the Arabian Gulf and the expanse of desert that stretches away to the south-east.

Creekside Park has several entrances but the main approach is from Garhoud Bridge. Due to the heat, the cable car only runs from 5pm to 9pm in summer; during the winter, it runs all day

Situated at Wafi City, this upmarket Egyptian-themed mall sprawls over 4 floors and is home to numerous international names. Encounter Zone, on the 3rd floor, is a family entertainment centre offering many activities for both children and adults.

It was opened in the year 2001 which now has over 200 shops, 60 international retail outlets, restaurants, and two floors of covered parking. Without a doubt, it is an awe-inspiring place and is believed to be the most elegant shopping plaza in Dubai. It features fashion accessories, electronics, household accessories, home furnishings, leather goods and gifts. The Wafi City Mall is definitely sure to have something for everyone.

The construction of the Wafi City Mall is based on an ancient Egyptian theme. The mall has three atriums through which you get natural light from pyramid-shaped ceilings. Two of the atriums consist of colored stained glass with illustrations of farmers, hunters, wrestlers, scribes, and priests from the time of the Pharaohs. There are also illustrations of the Pharaohs, the Gods of the Pharaohs, birds and animals such as bulls, birds, ducks, jackals and crocodiles. The Egyptian theme is prevalent throughout the complex in the shape of statues, columns, and mosaic floors. The mall has been extended several times since it opened and there has been some development in recent times also.

The Wafi City Mall houses a family entertainment center, a roller blade skating rink, Encounter Zones, virtual reality simulators, a 3D animation theatre, and a crystal maze. It is one of the favorite venues for events and exhibitions in Dubai. During Christmas, they have a huge Christmas tree, and they even create artificial snow.

The most beautiful and picturesque location in Dubai, Dubai Creek is a natural seawater inlet cutting in the heart of the city. The enchanting view of a large number of colorful and traditional Arab dhows, abras (motorized boat taxis) and sleek yachts with water birds splashing all over never fails to mesmerize its spectators. Walking along the Creek or enjoying an abra ride on the Creek is the best way to explore the beauty and charm of Dubai. The spectacular view of Dubai’s skyline would surely make a spell bound effect on you.

It is the historic point of Dubai. Large number of people including locals and tourists take a long walk along the banks of the creek which also marks the centuries-old trading traditions.

The visitors will be mesmerized by the vivid colors and vibrancy of the cities. Innumerable dhows or boats are loaded and unloaded which reminds one, of the trading practices in India and East Africa. A good point to watch the dhows and the creek from, is an Abra. This is a small water taxi which sails through the creek from the souks of Deira to those on the Bur Dubai side.

The Grand Mosque Dubai is counted among one of the largest mosques (with a capacity to accommodate up to 1200 worshippers) in United Arab Emirates. Originally constructed in traditional Islamic architectural style and opened in 1900 A.D as a kuttab (Quranic school) where children learnt to recite the Quran from memory, the Grand Mosque of Dubai was rebuilt (maintaining the style of the original Grand Mosque) in 1998 and now boasts a 70 meters (231ft) high minaret- the tallest minaret in Dubai.

Situated on the Bur Dubai side of the creek, near the Ruler’s Court, the Grand Mosque consists of 45 small domes in addition to 9 large ones boasting stained glass panels, sand-colored walls and wooden shutters. It is the main center of worship and important monument of Dubai.

The new Grand Mosque’s sand-colored walls and wooden shutters blend perfectly with the surrounding old quarter of Bur Dubai, is known for its size and elaborate design. The best time to see it is at night, when it is spectacularly lit up.

The Grand Mosque of Dubai is done up in Persian style as it contains blue mosaic type work, domes and sand hued facades. The mosque also contains handmade stained glass and wooden structures.

Non- Muslims are not allowed entry in the Grand Mosque. But they can visit the minaret and click picture of the mosque from therein.

Location of Grand Mosque of Dubai:

Located next to the Grand Mosque of Dubai are the Heritage and Diving Villages which portray an interesting picture of early life in Dubai. Earlier, Dubai was merely a fishing village and its main activities lay in pearl diving and dhow building. Another scene depicting the traditional nomadic life of the Bedouins is also present. The almost realistic scene contains replicas or models of Persian homes, an old styled coffeehouse and a small souq for purchasing freshly made flat grilled bread. A museum containing authentic remnants of nearby archaeological sites proves to be in interesting visit too.

The Grand Mosque, Bur Dubai is a recreation of the original Grand Mosque of the 1900s. Visiting the Grand Mosque and its nearby area at night time is a good idea, as the mosque is lit up brilliantly and has breathtaking views as well.
